What exactly is street style? Good question. Although there isn’t an exact answer, street style features a “model” in a candid situation in public places. You can totally still have professional styling for this, just think in terms of less is more for this kind of fashion.

But today, street fashion has evolved into its own form of artwork.

Photographers soon found beauty in the people on the streets, which led to popularity in what is known as “street style.”

From Tokyo, to London, to New York, this trending style has taken inspiration from other aesthetics like Harajuku, minimalist, and even hip hop.

Stemming from “grassroots” fashion, it pushes boundaries while keeping things casual and effortless. We like to think of it as an accessible way to bring an edge to familiar pieces.

What’s important to remember when you’re looking to dive into street fashion, is that there is no right way to do it!

The beauty of it is that it changes with the times and it is all about interpretation. Stepping into this style, you’ll need a few essentials. Whenever we look at street style, we tend to notice distinct statement pieces that make the outfit unique.

Consider getting a bold jacket to amp up your wardrobe. A couple of the most versatile types of jackets are leather or bombers or even a sick motorcycle style--to give you a fem-chic look.

The perfect jacket can be found from Blank NYC or even your local thrift store if you’re on a tight budget. Pairing it with a dress softens the edgy vibe and tailors the look to be sweet, yet sassy.

If you are trying to channel business chic, then a bright bold blazer or caped blazer is one for Instagram! You can amp it up as well by contrasting your colors or adding flashy accessories like pom-pom earrings or gold necklaces.

Shoes can make just as big of an impact on what you wear, as long as you are willing to take risks. You don’t even need red bottom heels to scream “high fashion.” Look for some color block heels, eye-catching floral designs, holographic straps or studded boots.

We recommend pairing some killer heels of your choice with skinny jeans and a plain colored top to spice up a basic outfit. Not only does it draw attention to your shoes, but it’s simple and classy enough to be worn to a number of occasions! You may have to give up comfort at times depending on the shoes, but anything to get the shot!

Makeup is actually quite simple when it comes to street fashion. Since you want to vibe with that comfortable ready to go aesthetic, you can keep to your basic makeup routine if you want.

However, you can add a pop of dimension or color to your face by keeping with nudes or more neutral shades. A beautiful palette such as the Crown Brushes 35 Color Rose Gold palette would be lovely for a timeless look that complements all skin tones.

Makeup used for this shoot: Crown Brushes 35 Color Rose Gold Pallet, Smashbox Photo Finish Primer, MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation, Lorac Pro Concealer & Contour, IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Redness, Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Cream Kit, Urban Decay Illuminated in Pyrite, Too Faced No Filter Selfie Powders, Steve Laurent Precision Tip Liner in Black, MAC Upward Lash in Upward Black, Janel Cosmetics.

You could even opt for a fierce wing if you are already rocking that leather jacket or your power shoes. If you are worried about perfection, or eyeliner is just not your thing, try out some nudes on your lips. They can be purple toned, peachy pale, or match the subtle orange of your outfit. NYX’s Sandstorm or MAC’s Which Witch are great picks that you can try out!

There are no rules to street fashion and there is no way to get it wrong. Express yourself, be daring, and experiment!
