Mocha Girl Beauty x RealHer: Finding Your Inner Beauty
Growing up, your mother probably said something along the lines of, “don’t wear too much makeup,” or “natural is best.”
And with the glam to the nines, full face beat trending on every social media channel nowadays, it’s time we take it back to the basics and appreciate the beauty of wearable makeup looks. Although makeup is truly an artform in itself and the intricate looks on social media are jaw dropping, we can’t forget about the beauty within ourselves!
There is one rising beauty company that is bringing back the beauty of wearable makeup looks, and that’s RealHer. Bill Xiang founded RealHer after the birth of his daughter, which at that point he decided to become a feminist.
He launched a beauty brand that doesn’t tell women how they can look better and fit into the standards of the beauty industry. Instead, RealHer aims to empower every women to feel confident and independent, beginning with the products’ packaging to the affirmative names for products, such as “I am a queen” and “I am a fighter.”
“Natural, everyday makeup doesn’t cover who you are, instead it enhances your natural beauty,” says RealHer’s Product Development Manager, Susy Torices. “Instead of masking yourself with eyeshadow, use more warm tones, natural shades that would really enhance who you really are.”
The golden rule to wearable, everyday makeup is prepping and priming your skin! This is a must do step, and you likely never cared much about primers until now. However, if you really think about it, moisturizer and primer are the first products you apply to your face and completely affect the outcome of your look.
Susy recommends starting with a clean face, using a toner to close pores, moisturizing with SPF, and applying a natural finish foundation. It’s absolutely essential to know your skin and which kinds of foundations work for your skin type. If you have oily skin, you can get away with using powder, but if you have dry skin, it’s important to know that powder will enhance the dry texture, so you will be better off using cream based products.
Natural, everyday makeup isn’t overly complicated either. It’s so easy to nail in five simple steps -- moisturizer, light foundation, blush, mascara, and grooming your brows. You can throw in a bit of concealer after applying foundation as an extra step.
However, you want to avoid wearing dark, black eyeshadow. Susy says, “Although it’s fun to experiment, it’s not going to give you the natural look you are going for.” But, if eyeshadow is a must-have in your everyday routine, RealHer’s Do Your Squats eyeshadow palette is perfect for daily, natural to warm looks. At the end of the day, you can amp it up with the darker shadows in the palette.
