Nothing says iconic like the 80’s! This era was a time for bright eyeshadows, teased hair, and glamour shots. Trendsetters like Madonna and Grace Jones pushed the envelope with daring pieces like bustiers, and and the thick brow fad was made popular by beauties like Brooke Shields. It was essential to make a statement! 80’s makeup and fashion is nothing short of memorable and it’s no surprise we see many popular trends making their way into current fashion.

The use of colored pigments and eyeliners are making a comeback on the red carpet and in everyday looks. You can easily find a colored liquid liner now at your local drug store! When it comes to brows, you are probably no stranger to the bold defined looks that cross your IG or YouTube feed. It definitely contrasts with the thinner brows of the 90’s and early 2000’s, but is nothing new to true 80’s babes.

This time, we collabed with GloGirl Cosmetics to bring you looks that channel the energy of that decade. We wanted to pay homage to the origins of trends we see today. A big congrats to GloGirl, as they teamed up with Netflix’s GLOW to create a line of lipsticks inspired by the hit show! Based on the story of a team of female wrestlers in the 80’s, it serves up some serious girl power. GloGirl’s new line has five new shades that channel the tough neon energy of the wrestlers. You’ll be wanting to tease your hair and throw on some spandex after you try them.

80’s Cut Crease

A modern spin on the use of glitter, we started with a bright orange base on the top of the lid. Blend it towards the eyebrow and make sure to pack on the pigment. You want it to look fierce of course! Next using a glitter or liquid eyeshadow, follow the arc of your natural crease or go just above it to make that accentuated lid. We recommend glitters from brands like NYX or products like Stila’s Liquid Eyeshadows! Now that’s not all of course. Add some hot pink color underneath your eye and smoke it out. This color combo definitely screams popstar and was very prominent in the 80s. Top off your lip with a GloGirl lipstick like Stuck on Stupid! Try out some glitter for highlight instead for extra accents.

For a more glam version of the 80’s cut crease, we swapped the lipstick for a more vibrant red one like Miss Saigon from GloGirl! Keep the brows thick and bushy like a true queen and use a glowy highlighter. The detail that is important in this version of the look is the orange-pink blush that goes along the sides of the cheeks! A definite must if you’re going to do the era justice. To make this look even more 80s, we wanted to try a color contour, hence the magenta pink! We're giving an ode to Grace Jones on this one!

No matter the decade, pink lips are never out of style. We are living for GloGirl's lippie in "Kinky Pinky."

It wouldn’t be right if we didn’t give you some blue eyeshadow action! Some of the most popular trends that the 80s was known for is the use of blue on the eyes.

It’s less about matching colors and more about being super bold. Start with a lighter blue base and add darker shades of blue in the middle. What will really make it pop is adding blue glitter to the center, and highlighting your inner corners with silver.

A nice mustard yellow contrasts perfectly and is placed under the eye to draw even more attention! The colors that match in this look are the blush and the lipstick. Don’t be afraid to wear a little more of a bright pink blush on your cheeks to match your barbie pink lips. GloGirl’s Kinky Pinky gives off total glam vibes!

To take a more grunge approach, change up the lip color to a more burgundy red. We recommend Smokin’ from the GLOW collab for this! It channels more of a Drew Barrymore vibe than a glam one. Either way you go, you are going to be unstoppable.

Our final creation stays true to the neon colors that ruled the 80s. We wanted to bring you that bold color contrast of warm and cool shades that we love so much. Meshing the first two looks, we focused on the eyes and lips. Take a pink and orange shade to the eyes to bring a nice pink sunset.

A nice palette to try out is Laura Lee’s Los Angeles palette in Party Animal. Blend a neon pink on the whole top lid, accenting it with some silver glitter! On the bottom, add some orange close to the lower lash line. These colors should be vibrant so that they stop traffic.

Keep a nice rosy blush on your face, and make sure it doesn’t entirely overpower your eyes or lips. You certainly can’t forget your lips to complete this look. Opt for a blue lipstick of your choice like GloGirl’s Blue Ballz or Blue Magic and make sure it has a slight glossy sheen to it. We love a shiny lip!

MGB is all about that female empowerment and we wanted to give you something a bit fun and daring with these 80’s inspired looks. Whether you’re battling it out in the ring, or strutting it out at the mall, don’t be afraid to show you’re fiercest colors.
