One of the trends blowing up the runways right now is a glossy lid. Glosses are an essential in the makeup bag ever since elementary school. Bring back your childhood favorite with a twist by applying it to your lids! A gloss with a tint can bring a hint of color to a neutral look, or add a clear gloss on top of eyeshadow to make a matte eye gleam!
To exaggerate the look, add a color pencil liner in a contrasting shade to make the eyes stand out. Glossier and Fenty have launched some great glosses worth the hype. As for lips, we recommend a more neutral matte shade or one that matches the gloss color on the lid, but in a more subtle way, like pictured.
The glossy lid has made a few appearances during fashion month. Prabal Gurung had the models wear a clear gloss from MAC to add extra shine to a neutral look. Clear gloss also gives the “wet” 90’s look to the eye.
The Derek Lam show in London had a gold gloss to bring subtle attention to the eyes. Tom Ford featured a gloss over liner look, while Victoria Beckham kept it classic with a clear glossy lid and bright coral lip.
For this look, we used the MAC Clear Gloss with a shadow from the Morphe 35S palette. Glossier’s clear lip gloss and Nars' Triple X Lip Gloss are great clear lip glosses. If you are looking for something less sticky and gel-like, the Julep Your Addiction Tinted Lip Oil is a good alternative. It has a base of rose hip and avocado oil that nourishes lips and eyes!
If you are looking for something with more color, Fenty just came out with a nice gloss and the MAC Lip Glass has been a classic since the 90’s. Be warned: don’t put a lip plumper lip gloss on your eyes! Some have menthol or other minty ingredients to get the plumping effect! It will burn!
